Cast Steel EPDM Lined Lug Type Concentric Butterfly Valve with Worm Gear Operated
Lug Type Butterfly Valves operate in a similar way to ball valves. However, instead of a ball being positioned in the valve body, there is a circular disc (referred to as a butterfly due to its resemblance to wings) surrounding a vertical shaft.
The flowrate is determined by the orientation of the butterfly. When the butterfly is aligned with the pipe, allowing the least amount of space for the fluid to pass through, there will be unrestricted flow.
As the butterfly moves away from the pipe's direction, the flowrate will be limited due to the increased obstruction caused by the larger surface area. Eventually, when the butterfly is perpendicular to the pipe, the flow will be completely shut off.
